Wood burner Or Not?
Many times we have been asked the question can we put a wood burner in our garden room?
The simple answer is yes. But…
I always get them to think about the need for a wood burner in your space. Firstly, wood burners are great in larger spaces where it would be very costly to keep the radiators going for hours to keep the space warm, but in small spaces the heat that they give out can be overwhelming at times.
They are also very difficult to regulate. You can’t just turn them down and instantly feel the benefit and then you end up opening windows to let all the heat out!
Secondly our wood burner is fantastic in our old drafty house where the walls are solid stone and no insulation but in our garden room I am so glad that we didn’t put one in, as I don’t think I would have lit it once!
Modern insulation is so efficient that the need for such a heat source in a small space is unnecessary.
So why do people put one in?
I have been thinking a lot about the answers to this question and I think it is down to a couple of things…
Firstly the look. It enhances the look and the feel of a Nordic cabin. Giving you a feeling of really being away from it all in those long dark winter months where having your private snug is a romantic dream you want filling.
Secondly the lack of power that some people may have to their space. Some people want to be off grid and having a heat source, which requires no electric is a need and a stove meets that need perfectly.
Thirdly it’s a cost thing. Apart fro the initial lay out for he stove and flue the wood can be free is sourced right and can be a very economical way of heating your space.
At Spacetwo we are happy to provide you with a space, with a multifuel or wood-burning stove. It’s an easy element to install if this is the right thing for your space.
