With summer ending its a perfect time to start thinking about how you used your garden this year and how you want to use it in the future. We are including details of this outstanding contemporary pool room for a bit of food for thought!
This contemporary poolroom and sauna was built by Spacetwo’s German partners Chiemgauer Holzhaus this summer. The clients wanted a space where they could relax and get away from it all as well as using the room as a sauna, which will be used all year round. In the summer months they wanted a place for their family to play and relax around the pool as well as providing an area for cooking and eating outside whilst the sun shines.
The clever use of the large roof overhang provides a place to really chill out in the hammock, as well as providing shade from the sun and a protected dining area.
Internally the room provides a sauna and facilities for changing.
This contemporary design was created using our patented trapezoidal cladding system with Aluminum corner profiles. This system uses solid logs, which have been machined. On the outside it has the appearance of horizontal cladding but in fact it is a solid log. Internally you have the natural beauty of a solid wooden wall. The walls are built using 140mm solid Spruce logs, which fit together like building blocks. Spruce is our wood of choice due to its excellent longevity, dimensional stability and high resin content. We only use Austrian Spruce, which has been slow grown at high altitude and felled in winter providing it with its superior qualities. The solid logs provide outstanding insulating capabilities, which mean that it is a perfect system for installing a sauna, where heat retention is paramount.
The benefits of using a solid wood wall compared to other wooden construction methods like SIPS and timber frames are that there are no requirements for any extra insulation or vapour barriers so there are no chemicals or foils used in our buildings. This means that they are sustainable, naturally permeable, environmentally friendly and healthy.
This design could be scaled down and adapted for a number of rooms with different uses from a traditional garden room, to an office or a building for different leisure activities. The metal corner details can be matched to the colour choice of your windows or Bi-fold doors providing that unique and modern finish to your garden room, not all providers can supply. Prices are competitively priced at approximately £1500 per meter squared depending on the design and finish required.
