The Parent Pad
With many of our families living longer some people are finding themselves in the situation where they need to move them closer to home so that they can be cared for.
With the average cost of a care home being around £28,000providing care from within your own home for many families becomes a serious option.
In most cases there is the dilemma of space within the house, not enough bedrooms, the cost and disruption of an extension or just a matter of privacy from both parties involved as well as the moral dilemma of“We want them living with us but do we actually want them living with us?”
From experiencing this first hand we know how difficult this can be in reality. We were fortunate for it to only be a short term need after our parents home flooded but for some this is a much more permanent solution.
This is where a garden room could be your answer.
It will provide independent living accommodation but in a place, safe with the knowledge that you are just there in case you are needed as well as being able to spend quality family time together.
With no planning permission usually required and with almost no disruption it’s the most cost and time effective solution, as long as you have a garden with some space.
Your garden room could be designed with internal walls to accommodate a bedroom, bathroom, living area with kitchen. As long as it can be connected to the main drain and a water and electric supply from the house.
Spacetwo garden rooms are just scaled down versions of German Log Homes, creating a smaller version of a house is what we do best. Our insulation and build construction surpasses the UK building regulations so they are incredibly warm in the winter and cool in summer as well as being durable and sustainable. Windows and doors can be configured however you want them using double glazed aluminium frames. It is just a tiny house really! The wooden exterior also makes it blend in like it’s a natural part of the garden, working with it rather than it looking like something that has just landed in it!
Inside your walls can be plastered of painted and we use the best in wooden flooring using the Swedish company Kahrs so it really feels like a home in the garden rather than a ‘posh shed’ which I have known garden rooms to be described as!
Because we work with you in the design process considerations like electric sockets can be put where you want them rather than trying to make something fit, which can be the case with other garden room companies options. Extras like the kitchen and bathroom can be chosen by you and installed by us or you can use a fitter of your choice. We would also be happy to provide you with a number of different kitchen and bathroom options to meet your budget and taste.
Having a granny annex in the garden will add just as much value to your home as an extension with that added bonus of privacy and the option of using it as a guest or teenage pad in the future.
